Hello, It has been a while since I have been involved in CBA. I took a detour and rebuilt a 1951 Ford F-1. I am ready to return to smithing. I am ready to upgrade to a newer anvil. My current anvil is a Hay Budden that has seen better days, but has served me well as a beginner I am ready to upgrade to a fresher anvil with proper edges. I am writing to get some advice on the best way to get a new anvil in the 125-200 lbs range. Thanks, Steve
Steve, Have you considered having your anvil reconditioned? I'm not an expert on this but I know there are people who offer that service.
Good luck.
Steve
Stephen:
Don't touch it, except to perhaps take a belt sander with a fine grit belt to dress the surface.
An untold number of good anvils are compromised by welding, resulting in soft spots.
For the few occasions when you need a crisp corner , make or get a nice chunky block that fits in your hardy.
