EVENT DESCRIPTION:

In this kick-off session we will first tackle punching and drifting. Do you know how to make a half-inch hole in half-inch bar? Hint: Your drill press won't work here! Mark Aspery will teach you how to punch and drift half-inch round, square and diamond shaped holes in half-inch round, square and flat bar. You'll learn the tips and tricks you need to be successful! So, dust off your Level I slot punch and round drift and get ready... (note: you'll be making more sizes of slot punches and the square and diamond drifts!).

Then, Becky Schimpff will teach mortise and tenon joinery. Mortise/tenon joints are the strongest of the traditional blacksmith joinery techniques and adding them to your repertoire will greatly expand what you can make. Becky will do a deep dive into the tooling and techniques required to make a good joint. Then she'll cover what can go wrong and potential fixes. You'll come out of this session with solid how-to knowledge that you can apply to your projects.

Presentation fulfils the CBA level IIa curriculum requirements.
