Demonstration by Joy Fire
Joy Fire will be demonstrating a dry fit joinery technique that she used during a month long artist residency in Colorado. She will show the steps to forge a simple triangular collar that is connected with two rivets. After this is made the dry fitted joinery is simple. Three pieces of wood or metal are used as legs, with the collar holding them in place as they splay out in each corner of the collar to form a sturdy base. This setup can then be put to an infinite number of uses, from a simple stool or small table base, to a plant stand, to a pedestal on which to display a sculpture or other object of importance. The benefit of the dry fitted legs is that they are adjustable and the whole piece can be broken down for easy transportation.

We will focus on the tools you will need for the Friday-Sunday workshop projects. Instructions will include Bill Stone's kit tongs, modifying tong jaws, hot cut chisels, center punches, round punches and more.
Friday Morning - Folding Cooking Trivet

Friday Afternoon - Blacksmiths Tongs

Learn the basics of hot-collaring while forging a useful lighting fixture for your camp or patio.
Calling Youth Blacksmiths!
Bring your tools, your muscles, and your imagination- the challenge this year is a group designed-and-forged candle-holding sculpture. 15 year old Patrick Rogers will be helping to coordinate the efforts of everyone willing to help on this kids-only effort. We're setting aside a batch of forges for Youth Use Only on Friday Afternoon at the Continuing Ed./Open Forge tent down on the green. Meet Patrick there at 2 pm Friday to start planning and forging. All skill levels welcomed (and needed)! The final product will be auctioned off at the Saturday banquet-
