Blacksmithing Classes for July and August 2015

More Information:

Since we last offered classes in February Jim Austin spent the  entire month of April both teaching and studying axe-forging in Norway and Sweden.  Now he's back and ready to teach!

Upcoming Class Offerings:

Introduction to Blacksmithing
will run on July 11th and 12th for people who would like to delve into early blacksmithing as they reproduce iron articles from the Viking and Middle Ages.

Making Viking Tool Steel / Forging a Firesteel will be taught on July 18th and 19th.  In this class students will learn how to transform soft iron into high carbon steel worthy of forging into high-grade tools and knives.  They will then use it to fashion "fire steels" - traditional tools for starting fires (with flint) used since the Roman times.

Forge-Welded Hammers of the Viking Age will be taught on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (July 31st to August 2nd).  In this class students will forge blade-smithing and blacksmithing hammers from the Viking Age based on archeological finds.

Later in August and into the Fall:
Look for classes on Axe Forging, Silver Inlay, Knife-making and More!
